Troubleshooting: What to do when the broadcast doesn't go live?
There are several possibilities:
- For some technical or other reason, the session is starting later than announced. Keep refreshing the live broadcast page to catch the broadcast when it starts.
- Sometimes, very rarely, a hangout cannot be broadcast. In this case I have to start a new hangout and give out new links. This will take a few minutes. Go to the page with the broadcast links, refresh/reload the page, and click on the new link (I will indicate it's a new link). Or simply keep clicking on the little photo or my name on the left side underneath the YouTube screen. This way you will automatically be directed to the broadcast that is going on live at this moment. If it redirects you to the same 'stand by' message, it means the broadcast hasn't started yet, but you will get to the live broadcast once it has started.
2 Comment or ask a question on the YouTube comment thread:
On live broadcast YouTube pages, there is a comment column to the right of the window for the video. In order to comment, you need to create a YouTube account. If you need instructions, click www.wikihow.com/Make-a-YouTube-Account. If you already have a g-mail or Google+ account, your YouTube account is created automatically. It's nice if you add a photo, so that people can see you, this makes the experience more vivid for everybody.
To ask a question: please put the word QUESTION in capitals, so it’s easily visible. You can repeat it to make sure it’s noticed. I will check the comments and questions once the conversation with the teacher has come to an end.
Sometimes, if there are a lot of comments the YouTube comment thread takes some time to refresh and to post them, but they will show up sooner or later!

3 Ask your question live by joining the Google hangout:
This takes a bit of time to set up, but once you've done it, you're ready to participate as directly and fully as is possible on the internet! If you're a 'low tech' person, maybe you could ask a tech-savvy friend or young person to help you out?
